NO ONE OWES YOU A LIVING
- A Message to All Business Owners, Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Professional Salespeople
In today's economy there can easily exist a deep down sense of fear and helplessness. Surviving and growing requires new roles and sets of skills that are dramatically different than the ones we have been taught.
Yes there also exists the opportunity for a person who wants to be an individual, who wants the sky, and who doesn't want to punch a clock. Their horizon can be as broad as their ambition. Being an entrepreneur, a business owner or a sales professional can bring freedom and prosperity. But there's a catch in all this. Today you must work much smarter for the rewards. Freedom of movement is all very well if it is accompanied by a sharp sense of responsibility, and the ability to learn and to change.

Some business and sales professionals think that their mere physical presence and presentation of services or products entitles them to the sale. The problem is that the person, who cannot or will not take the initiative, is in trouble. And at the end of the day they manage to find some excuse that absolves them from blame: Anything but the truth--that they lost by default.
What makes some people operate on eight cylinders and others on two? Here are some reasons:
1. Lack Of Motivation.
The person without motivation is like a clock without a mainspring. The main problem is they do not set goals for themselves. If you hope to make it in business you must shoot at some target. There must be focus and direction.
2. Pie In The Sky.
Another reason for less than desired results is the attitude that; "If I build it, they will come." There exists a very naive belief that by simply doing some marketing, like direct mail, trade shows and/or advertising, a successful business can be built. Marketing at best will make the people ring the phone or come through the door. Then what! The need for new skill sets in systemic selling processes is vital.
3. Solving Problems.
Every profession or business has its problems. Some are built into the business while others are local or related to a particular product or service. But whatever their nature, most problems can be licked by analysis, hard work and ASKING FOR HELP. Nobody ever told you it would be easy, but it can be made easier, if you are willing to work at it.
4. Buyer's Side.
Your buyer is also working for a living and is subject to various pressures. Are you genuinely interested and taking the time to see situations through their eyes? It is necessary to understand the buyer's problems and obligations. You lay the foundation for their future reliance on your dependability, and the message they give to others about you.
5. Blaming Others.
There are people who not only believe that the world owes them a living, but also manage to blame others for the fact that they aren't getting it. This is an all too common attitude. They never think of placing the blame where it really belongs--on them. They're afraid to admit that they have weaknesses.
Today we all need to be self-motivated, self-starting, directed, focused, controlled and responsible to succeed.
Also, you must be committed, no matter what! You can't go it alone. Find mentors, professional coaches to support you, and training classes that help you develop stronger roles and better skill sets.
