Keep your current clients coming back for more. If you are unsure of how to retain your current clients, you need to first understand the past behavior of your client interactions. Then you will understand how to keep your current clients coming back in the future.

Make the decision easy

Your customers want to feel smart about the choices they make. With all other things being equal, if a customer is offered a better deal from another salesperson, the likelihood is they will choose to buy from the other salesperson because it makes the client feel confident and good about the decision. The fact is that your client will need to make a choice, and the strategy should be to make the decision to continue to purchase from you as easy as possible. For example, by offering a special promotion, or package deal available to continuing clients only, the decision maker will feel like they are making good use of company resources and will want to purchase while this deal is available.

What differentiates you from the other choices? Focus on your key market differentiators, because the market space is crowded, and competition for all business segments is increasing and highly volatile. Click to learn more.

Stay in contact

One of the biggest reasons that companies lose clients is due to the company's failure to develop a customer contact plan. It is important to contact your clients to keep your name and company at the top of their mind and make them feel appreciated and important. If you don't contact your clients, someone else will, and they will have the opportunity to sell and turn your former client into their loyal client.

By maintaining communication with your client you will also have the opportunity to learn about other products and services that they need and you could offer to benefit their business. It will be easier to continue to sell to a client if they know you will continue to communicate with them and offer them products and services which add value to their business.

With such a large variety of communication methods available today, you have the ability to communicate with your clients in whatever way is most convenient for them. You may even choose to use several methods, thus reinforcing your name and company to the client.

Client Satisfaction

Another reason clients choose to leave and do business with another company is due to dissatisfaction. This can be with the product, the service, the salesperson, or the company. Unfortunately once a client is dissatisfied, it is difficult to retain them. You may still be able to vindicate your offering by fixing the situation the best you can to satisfy the client's need. Of course there will be times when it is in the salesperson's and company's best interest to let a client go. Once you weed through the clients that cost too much to keep, you will develop better strategies to satisfy the clients that you do want to keep.

There are many programs available to help you to retain clients. The key is to find the one that fits your company and your clients.
