If you are getting mixed signals from various types of prospects, you may not be focusing your selling methods on the right type of client for your business. Selling isn't all about gaining the most clients; it's about gaining more of the right clients. As a salesperson, you have the responsibility to make your offerings to prospects that fit your services / products. If you try to sell your offerings to everyone, you will always have problems with someone being unhappy or being difficult to work with. You cannot please everyone, so why not focus your attention on those prospects that you can serve well and please?

You must first research your company, everything from the mission statement to the list of beloved and devoted clients already being served. This will help you understand the connection between what your company offers, and what clients are seeking. You will also learn the type of customer that the company is most successful at serving. Determine commonalities between these clients, and the elements making them such a nice fit with your company. Then you can develop a system for recognizing prospects that fit into your Ideal Client Profile.

Once the system is set into place, you can begin making sales appointments with the RIGHT prospects. The more you meet with these prospects, the more prospects who will buy from you, and the more you will learn about their reasons for buying. You will be better able to gear your sales message to accommodate the reasons for buying, as well as offering products and services that align with what their company needs.

With a more targeted list of prospects turning into clients and referral sources, your company will be seen as an expert provider of their goods and services. You will also develop better methods for coping with or better directing those contacts who do not fit your Ideal Client Profile.
